Vor kurzem erschien ein sehr lesenswertes Buch über die Philippinen vom Autor Wolfgang Bethge. Es bietet dem Leser auf 316 Seiten Einblicke in die Natur, Kultur, Geschichte und die Gesellschaft der Philippinen.

Über Heise bin ich auf eine recht interessante neue Plattform/Software gestoßen:
Skobbler ist eine Art Navigationsportal. Online kann man sich das Kartenmaterial einfach auf den Monitor holen und interessante Orte, Bars, Clubs etc. finden und diese sogar selbst eintragen oder bewerten.
Für unterwegs gibts eine Software fürs Handy, mit der man dann ganz einfach sein Ziel findet.
Die alte Auflage dieses in englischer Sprache geschriebenen Buches habe ich mir bereits 2007 gekauft. Es bietet schöne Fotos und ist generell eine schöne Einleitung um die vielseitigen Sehenswürdigkeiten des Landes kennenzulernen.

Billig, bunt und unverwüstlich. Seit mehr als 50 Jahren beherrschen die Jeepneys das Straßenbild der Philippinen. Die bunten, spritfressenden Fahrzeuge sind umgebaute, zu Bussen verlängerte Jeeps und bis heute das wichtigste Transport- und Nahverkehrsmittel in dem Inselstaat. Wie viele Jeepneys herumfahren, weiß keiner – Schätzungen zufolge sind es allein in “Metro Manila”, wie der Ballungsraum mit der Hauptstadt in seinem Zentrum genannt wird, über 200.000 Fahrzeuge. Aber die steigenden Benzinpreise bereiten auch ihren Erbauern und Chauffeuren zunehmend Sorgen. Hat der Jeepney eine Zukunft?
